Baking Hope in the Middle of the Storm

A few years ago, during Hurricane Harvey, four bakers from a Mexican bakery in Houston showed incredible bravery. At first, they closed the bakery and went home after selling all the bread. However, a few hours later, they returned to start baking again. Soon, the streets were flooded, and they were trapped inside the bakery.

At first, they were scared and didn’t know what to do. But then, they decided to keep working. They knew that people in the city needed food, especially bread. So, they worked all day and night, taking turns to sleep on flour sacks. Even though the water was rising, it never entered the bakery, and the electricity didn’t go out.

On Sunday, the bakery owner tried to rescue them, but the police didn’t let him. The next day, he finally arrived and was amazed to see the bakery full of fresh bread. The bakers had made 4,000 loaves and used 2,000 kilos of flour.

In the end, they delivered all the bread for free to volunteers and victims. This story shows how bravery, teamwork, and kindness can help others during dangerous situations.

Learning in the Pre-AI Era

The landscape of education and student life has undergone a profound transformation, particularly when we look back at the era before widespread artificial intelligence. Before tools like intelligent tutors, advanced plagiarism checkers, or sophisticated research assistants became common, the learning experience was distinctly different. Because of the limited access to vast, instantly retrievable information, students had to rely heavily on physical libraries, textbooks, and the direct instruction of their teachers. Research projects, for instance, involved countless hours sifting through card catalogs, physical encyclopedias, and printed academic journals. As a result of this manual process, the pace of information gathering was much slower, often requiring significant time and effort to find relevant data. This also meant that the learning process emphasized deep dives into specific resources rather than broad, quick overviews.
